How much does an AI receptionist cost in the UAE?
By Zohaib Yasin, founder of EncntUpdated 6 min read
Short answer
An AI receptionist has two costs: a one-off setup (call flows, calendar and WhatsApp integration, testing in Arabic and English) and running costs that scale with call minutes. Published voice-platform rates in October 2026 work out at roughly US$0.08 to US$0.15 per minute, so a clinic handling 3,000 minutes a month pays in the low hundreds of US dollars in platform fees, plus phone line, messaging and support.

What are you actually paying for?
An AI receptionist is several services stitched together: something that hears the caller, a language model that decides what to say, a voice that says it, a phone line, and the integrations that let it book into your calendar and confirm on WhatsApp. Some vendors bundle these into one per-minute price; others bill each part separately. Either way, the same components are in the bill.
| Component | What it does | How it is billed |
|---|---|---|
| Voice AI platform | Runs the call: speech recognition, turn-taking, interruptions | Per minute, sometimes with a monthly plan |
| Language model (LLM) | Understands the caller and decides the reply | Per minute or per token; included on some plans, extra on others |
| Voice (text-to-speech) | Speaks the reply; premium voices cost more | Per minute |
| Phone line | Your existing number forwarded, or a new number | Monthly number fee plus per-minute carriage |
| WhatsApp confirmations | Booking confirmations and reminders after the call | Per delivered template message (Meta rate card) |
| Setup | Call flows, FAQs, calendar and CRM integration, testing | One-off project fee |
| Support | Monitoring, transcript review, updating answers | Monthly retainer or hourly |
What do voice AI platforms charge per minute?
These are list prices from each vendor's own pricing page, checked on 20 October 2026. They change often, so treat them as a starting point and check the links in the sources below before you budget.
| Platform | Published pricing | Not included in the headline rate |
|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs Agents | Plans from US$6 a month (75 minutes) to US$990 a month (12,375 minutes); extra minutes US$0.08 | LLM usage is billed separately; an external phone provider bills you directly |
| Retell AI | Voice infrastructure US$0.055/min; LLM from about US$0.002 to US$0.16/min by model; standard voices US$0.015/min; their sample setup totals US$0.11/min | Telephony through Twilio or Telnyx at US$0.015/min; numbers US$2 a month; concurrency above 20 calls at US$8 per extra line a month |
| Vapi | Platform hosting US$0.05/min; their calculator puts 1,000 minutes at US$82 to US$129 including speech, model and voice | Telephony billed by your provider; a HIPAA add-on is listed at US$2,000 a month |
Two things stand out. First, the headline rate is rarely the all-in rate: the model and the voice you choose can double the per-minute cost. Second, premium voices matter more than people expect. On Retell's price list, ElevenLabs voices run US$0.04 to US$0.10 a minute against US$0.015 for standard voices.
Worked example: a clinic with 1,000 calls a month
The assumptions are stated so you can swap in your own numbers. Prices are converted at the UAE dirham's fixed rate of AED 3.6725 to the US dollar.
- Volume: 1,000 calls a month at an average of 3 minutes each, so 3,000 minutes.
- Platform, model and voice: US$0.11 a minute (Retell's published sample configuration). 3,000 × 0.11 = US$330 (about AED 1,212).
- Telephony: US$0.015 a minute through a provider. 3,000 × 0.015 = US$45 (about AED 165).
- WhatsApp confirmations: 600 bookings, each confirmed with one utility template at Meta's UAE rate of AED 0.0576. 600 × 0.0576 = AED 34.56 (about US$9.40).
- Running total: about US$385 a month (roughly AED 1,410) before support and before your carrier's forwarding charges.
Double the average call length and the platform line doubles too. That's why the first thing to measure is not the number of calls but the minutes: pull a month of call logs from your phone system before you compare quotes.
What does setup cost, and what drives it?
Setup is where quotes differ most, and there is no honest market average to quote because most published ranges come from agencies selling the service. What we can say is what moves the price. In our projects, a single clinic with one calendar, a short list of approved answers and two languages is the simplest case. Each of the following adds real work:
- More call types (new bookings, reschedules, cancellations, price questions, insurance questions, results calls).
- A practice-management system without a usable API, which means a workaround instead of a direct booking.
- Several branches with different doctors, hours and services.
- Arabic and English on the same line, which needs more test calls (see our guide to Arabic AI voice agents).
- Hand-off rules: when the agent must transfer to a person, and what happens after hours when nobody is there.
Ask for setup to be priced as a fixed fee per milestone, with testing included. A quote that is only per minute usually means setup is either missing or folded into a higher rate.
How does it compare with hiring a receptionist?
We won't quote a salary figure, because receptionist pay in the UAE varies widely by emirate, language and experience. Use your own numbers. The monthly cost of a person is their salary plus allowances, visa and Emirates ID costs spread over the contract, health insurance, the end-of-service gratuity you accrue, and cover for leave and sick days.
The fairer comparison is coverage, not replacement. A receptionist covers their working hours and handles the hard calls well. An AI receptionist covers every hour, including evenings and weekends, but should only handle routine calls and pass the rest to a person. Most clinics we work with use it for after-hours calls and overflow when the front desk is busy, which is what our Dubai clinic case study describes.
What pushes the monthly cost up?
- Long calls: a caller who wants to talk through options costs more minutes than a quick booking.
- Larger language models and premium voices, which can each add more than the base platform rate.
- Concurrency: if many calls arrive at once, some platforms charge for extra simultaneous lines.
- Call recording and transcript storage, especially if your retention policy is long.
- Compliance tiers: US clinics that need a business associate agreement may pay for a vendor's HIPAA add-on.
- Ongoing changes: new services, new prices and seasonal hours all need the agent's answers updated.
What should you ask a vendor before signing?
- What is the all-in cost per minute with the exact model and voice you're proposing?
- Which account do the platform, phone number and workflows live in, ours or yours?
- Can we keep our existing clinic number?
- What happens when the agent can't help, and who sees the transcript?
- Where are call recordings and transcripts stored, and for how long?
- How do we change an answer or a price, and how long does that take?
- What does support cost after launch, and what does it include?
Questions people ask
Is there a free AI receptionist?
Most platforms have a free tier for testing. ElevenLabs, for example, lists 15 free call minutes a month. That is enough to hear how it sounds, not to run a clinic's phones.
Can an AI receptionist use our existing clinic number?
Usually yes. The common setup forwards calls from your existing line to the agent, either all calls, unanswered calls or after-hours calls. Check forwarding options and charges with your carrier. Note that some providers restrict UAE numbers: Twilio, for example, allows UAE geographic numbers to receive calls only.
Does an Arabic AI receptionist cost more?
The per-minute list prices we checked don't change by language. The extra cost of Arabic is mostly in setup: writing answers in both languages and running more test calls with real Gulf Arabic speech.
How do we work out whether it pays for itself?
Count the calls you currently miss (your phone system logs them), estimate how many of those would have booked, and multiply by the value of a visit. Compare that with the monthly running cost. If you don't know your missed-call count, measure it for a month before buying anything.
